演講題目 | The First Quasar: Beginning of Our Understanding of Supermassive Black Holes |
摘要 | According to Professor Rachel Webster, black holes are some of the most extreme objects in the universe.  But what is a black hole and how do we know they exist?  This talk explores the objects that reside at the heart of most galaxies. In their active phase, these black holes are observed as quasars, but in some cases we can detect the presence of the black hole from its gravitational influence of the stars around it.  A spectacular example is the heart of our own galaxy, the Milky Way.  Finally, the new and planned experiments to observe the birth of the first quasars are described. |
