Also abundant here is the ecology. Cicada sounds and dancing butterflies fill the air, and there is a walking path surrounded by a rich variety of beautiful ferns. The most thrilling way to get to the resort is to take the cable car. Many visitors plan multi-day itineraries, choosing to live among the mountains to experience the joy of a nature trip in the forest. The park also contains a variety of recreational equipment geared toward children, making it a great place for the young and old. Families especially love to visit the animal park to see the many cute creatures that call the resort home. Yun Hsien Holiday Resort 雲仙樂園 E1_382000000A_012232

Pinglin is one of northern Taiwan’s best known tea villages. It not only has been blessed with abundant natural resources but also has many ancient buildings and homes that serve as quiet memorials to the town’s historical and cultural heritage. Part of that history dates back to the Japanese occupation period when the colonists established a police station for security, tax-collection, and monitoring purposes. Today the station is used as a private residence, but its exterior has mostly remained the same despite having been built more than a century ago. The owner shifted the main door slightly to the left, but the stone bricks, black tiles, and architecture preserve the original Japanese style. The design is simple and unique for today’s world, and it emits a vague feeling of severity common in older police stations. The former police station is located to the side of the Jinxi 1st Bridge, and at the front of the alley leading to it is a sign alerting visitors. To reach the station, simply walk down this alley. The Li Mei-Sshu Memorial Gallery was moved to its present location in Sanxia in 1995 to commemorate the famed local artist and professor. Despite its small size, the gallery contains Mr. Li Mei-Sshu’s best works along with artifacts and information related to the artist. The main purpose of Professor Li’s works was to display the beauty of his native Taiwan. Li tended toward realism, and the paintings themed on his beloved town of Sanxia are filled with his four main artistic principles: wind, earth, people, and emotion. One of Li’s most famous works is “Boy Teasing a Turkey,” which uses 3-D painting techniques and is ingenious, much like the world-famous “Mona Lisa.” Master Li Mei-Sshu adored his hometown of Sanxia, and his love ran deep enough that he was willing to spend half his life renovating its Zushi Temple. Li was exacting in his work, and soon Zushi became the longest-renovated temple in Taiwan and the most detailed. To learn more about Li, you can visit the gallery and speak to a guide, one of whom is Li’s son and a subject in many of the master’s paintings. Listening to one of the figures in a painting describe the painting is an interesting experience that lets the imagination run wild. The Li Mei-Sshu Memorial Gallery 李梅樹紀念館 E1_382000000A_012253
